Cycling in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

What a glorious day for cycling in Aberdeen and cycling in Aberdeenshire with CTC Grampian. (a member of Cycling UK).

We set off on one of our club’s faster rides (termed a Faster Full Day – FFD) to Tarland but en route we made our way via Drumoak, Park Bridge, Woodlands of Durris and Crathes before stopping off for a coffee and something to eat at the Raemoir Garden Centre in Banchory.

There were about 7 of us which is about average for a faster ride although over the summer on a fine day you can perhaps see a dozen when we venture farther out on our adventures cycling in Aberdeenshire to places like Fyvie Castle, Rothiemay, Ballater and Edzell.

When we are Cycling Aberdeen we can meet up at Airyhall Library or Leggart Terrace but often meet up out of town at Parkhill Bridge in Dyce, Peterculter West, Milltimber, Bridge of Don. These farther out meeting points are more popular during the summer months as they allow us to ride further when we have more daylight.

Not only does CTC Grampian afford road cycling but our timetable affords opportunities for Gravel Rides around Aberdeen and Gravel Rides across Aberdeenshire.

One of these was particularly memorable recently as we rode along the forest tracks by the banks of the River Dee near Banchory. Very few Cycling UK clubs offer such a variety of rides for a diverse range of abilities from slower, medium and faster day rides to Cycling in Aberdeen Morning Rides and occasional Cycling in Aberdeen evening rides.

On day rides members sometimes ride home after coffee if time does not permit a longer ride. But it’s on the longer rides that afford views like Queens View when cycling around Aberdeenshire or Cruden Bay or even Peterhead when we venture further afield, and of course, as a Cycle Touring Club, members ‘club’ together to organise trips away in Scotland and overseas (pandemic notwithstanding).

CTC Grampian is a club that welcomes cyclists of all abilities, with a diverse calendar of rides running throughout the year. If you are looking to Cycle in Aberdeen or Cycle in Aberdeenshire please come along and try one of the rides.
